7 Marksa
A company has three plants at location of A, B and C which supply to warehouses located at D, E, F, G and H. Monthly plant capacities are 800, 500 and 900 units respectively. Monthly warehouse requirements are 400, 400, 500, 400 and 800 units respectively. Unit transportation (in Rs.) are given below:
From \ To D E F G H A 5 8 6 6 3 B 4 7 7 6 5 C 8 4 6 6 4 Determine an optimum distribution for the company in order to minimize the total transportation cost.
How to answer
- Formulate transportation table with supply and demand
- Check balanced problem: total supply = total demand
- Find initial feasible solution by VAM/NWCR
- Optimize by MODI/Stepping stone and compute minimum cost
-
7 MarksbA company uses annually 24,000 units of a raw material which costs Rs. 1.25 per unit placing each order costs Rs. 22.5 and the carrying cost is 5.4% per year of the average inventory. Find the economic lot size and the total inventory cost (including the cost of material). Should the company accept the offer made by supplier of a discount of 5% on the cost price on a single order of 24,000 units. Suppose the company works for 300 days a year. If the procurement time is 12 days and safety stock is 400 units find the reorder point, the minimum, maximum and average inventory.
How to answer
- Compute EOQ = sqrt(2DS/H)
- Compute total inventory cost including material cost
- Compare total cost with 5% discount single order
- Compute reorder point, min/max/average inventory with safety stock
-
